DP members meet to
iron out differences
PHILIPSBURG--The six-member Democratic Party (DP) faction in the Island Council met Saturday afternoon in the Government Administration Building to iron out differences and issues, particularly those raised by Commissioner Louie Laveist.
Laveist went public with his grievances last week, stating that he was being left out in the cold by fellow commissioners, because they were not backing him up on the transfer/removal of Interim Head of the Island Labour Department Raphael Boasman.
Party Leader Commissioner Sarah Wescot-Williams convened the meeting as soon as she had returned from a working visit to the Netherlands. Commissioners Maria Buncamper-Molanus, Roy Marlin and Theo Heyliger, as well as Island Councilman Petrus Leroy de Weever were present at the meeting, which lasted about 90 minutes.
Confronted by the press upon exiting the building after the meeting, Wescot-Williams said she would issue a statement Sunday about the content of the meeting.
Up to press time no statement was received from the Commissioner, who was coping with a death in her family.
