affected by Omar

~ Cruise ship calls not certain today ~

AIRPORT--Flights arriving and departing from Princess Juliana International Airport have already been and will continue to be affected by the passage of Hurricane Omar, which is forecast to reach the local area this evening.

Windward Islands Airways International Winair issued an advisory last night telling passengers to expect possible delays and flight cancellations due to the effects of the storm. Flights to and from St. Maarten, St. Kitts, Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda, and Dominica are expected to be affected.

Airline Managing Director Edwin said, “From today [Tuesday] until Friday the flight schedule of Winair might be disrupted depending on the passing of Omar from the Southwest.

Hodge said the safety of passengers, crew and equipment was very important to the airline and the weather situation would be monitored closely and adjustments made to the schedule where necessary.

The airline will keep the travelling public abreast of any change or new development.

The Insel Air flight from Curaçao to St. Maarten reportedly was cancelled Tuesday due to the storm.

Meanwhile, according to reports, the three cruise ships scheduled to be in port today may have detoured to other ports unaffected by Hurricane Omar. Carnival Glory, Marco Polo and Crown Princess were expected in port today.
