Dick seeking 10 million
more for Safety Plan

PHILIPSBURG--Justice Minister David Dick will be going to the Netherlands seeking an additional ten million euros for the Netherlands Antilles Security Plan. The money will be needed for several projects for the prison, the police, the Immigration Department, and for continued cooperation with the Dutch Marechaussees.

The Minister told the Curaçao-based newspaper Extra that the funding was intended for additional projects for 2009.

The Dutch Government committed 21 million euros for the second phase of the Security Plan during 2008 and 2009. Dick indicated in January that he needed NAf. 300 million to get the Justice system of the entire Netherlands Antilles up to par.

The Dutch Government had already given NAf. 44 million for the Security Plan in 2007, to which the Central Government added another NAf. 11 million.

Dick and two other Ministers will be travelling to the Netherlands for a tripartite Justice meeting with Aruba and the Dutch Government during which the Netherlands Antilles Security Plan will be discussed and the Ministers will evaluate the ongoing cooperation between Dutch and Antillean police authorities.
