Suspect in Fleming murder
transferred to Guadeloupe

~ Mother was shot in the head, baby’s neck broken ~

MARIGOT--Female suspect R.D.W. is currently being detained in Guadeloupe for questioning in connection with the murder of Nejumbia Fleming and her baby daughter last week Thursday morning in Lowtown, St. James.

Prosecutor Maitre Simeon in Guadeloupe indicated that Fleming died from a gun shot to the head and the baby’s neck was broken, information that contradicts a preliminary report that suggested Fleming died from a violent blow to the neck while the baby suffocated from smoke inhalation.

He added the likely scenario was that the apartment was set on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence of the murders.

According to Simeon, R.D.W. has denied being in the apartment where the murders took place and claims the burns she sustained were the result of a cooking accident. The prosecutor also added that he has requested the extradition of main suspect R.O.H.K to the French side.

He said the continuing investigation will focus on how the suspects in the murders obtained keys to the apartment in Lowtown as there was no forced entry.

Prosecutor Jacques Louvier confirmed that this case and the case of the young Frenchman who died from a stab wound at an ATM machine in Simpson Bay are being handled by the Guadeloupe prosecutor’s office.

Louvier said both Dutch and French side authorities are currently cooperating on the ATM murder case, but could give no further details.

Meanwhile, one unconfirmed French side media report suggested the assailants demanded $50 from their victims in the attack, but the ATM machine was found not to be working.

By press time, efforts to contact any of the victims to learn more about the incident were unsuccessful.
