Dear Editor,
As a born Statian I think it is but fair for me to respond to the article in The Daily Herald on February 21, 2012, headlined, "Saba Business Petition Statia Terminal Expansion."
As the Dutch would say, "Bemoei je met je eigen zaken", meaning mind your own business. Let Statians make their own decisions."
When Saba was receiving their sweets from all over, Statians never got involved. Let us continue living as good neighbours and if some Sabans need work, apply at NuStar and come over let us all grow together. Please stop trying to deprive Statians of what is due to them. If Statia is to sit and rely on tourism as our main income" God see for us all."
Just a question for the business community of Saba: Saba has a lot of day-trippers by air and sea. How is it you never tried the edge for a half-day to Statia? That speaks for itself.
It is all well to try and boycott Statia from having an increase in jobs.
Because of NuStar, many Statians have land, apartments, houses and even a better way of living. Furthermore Statians are not against the expansion, but the location.
Next question: if oil were found on the Saba bank, what would be your position on this. Should we then oppose that too? Remember, you say the Saba bank belongs to you, while it is the possession of each and every island in this region.
Please let us trust in God and welcome the expansion.
