President of Curaçao's Soccer Association FFK (and formerly of the Antillean association NAVU) Jean Francisca (centre) gave a press conference, in which he acknowledged having been offered a "gift" of US $40,000 by international soccer federation FIFA official Mohamed bin Hammam of Qatar, who was recently suspended for alleged bribery. However, the offer made to the associations present at a meeting of Caribbean Football Union (CFU) was refused, stated Francisca, who is also a former chairman of the Antillean Parliament on behalf of the MAN party. He said he felt awkward about accepting the cash, because monetary gifts are not customary, but admitted having suggested that the amount could possibly be transferred to the bank account of FFK, which never happened. Francisca still does not see it as a bribery attempt, because the offer was not accompanied by any instruction to vote for Hammam during the election for FIFA president, in which the latter was a candidate, before his suspension.
