Carib Swim Team athletes improve at Sun Kissed meet

page44cCOLE BAY--Six members of the Carib Swim Team competed in the Sun Kissed Junior/Senior Swimming Championships in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Representing St. Maarten were Harry Antrobus, Benjamin Justine, Jolyon Ferron, Matthias Reilten, Stephen Looser and Steven Cloose.
The athletes all performed great in front of a packed crowd, swimming personal bests and moving up in the rankings throughout the meet. Everyone dropped more than one second in at least 1 event with 75 percent of all their swims being personal bests.
There were 6 swims in which a swimmer dropped 10 seconds or more off their best time, highlighted by Jolyon Ferron dropping 20 seconds or more in both the 200 fly and 400 IM.
Steven Cloose made it to finals in the Junior in the 100 Fly and finished 11th in 500 free, and Stephen Looser made second alternate in the Senior 200 fly finishing 20th.
More than 650 swimmers from all over the United States and Caribbean competed in the meet that was split into 2 groups.
The younger swimmers competed in the Juniors group, 13 and under. The Senior division was 14 and older. The host facility is a 1000 seat natatorium, which hosts meets that attracts the likes of Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte. For all but Reilten this was first meet the athletes swam in a yards pool, and in the USA.
Three other Swim Team members, Kelia Serramoglia, Morghane Mazurier, and Che Sheldon Charlemagne will compete in the CARIFTA Games in Jamaica.
