ORIENT BAY—2010 French world slalom champion Antoine Albeau, St. Martin's Julien Quentel, and St. Barths's Antoine Questel will be among some of the big names from the professional windsurfing world who will compete in the 6-hour team relay race in Orient Bay on January 22nd, organiser Windsurfing Adventures announced.
Several of the world's top pros are gathering in the region for the Windsurfing Fun Cup scheduled for January 27-29 in St. Barths and some have agreed to participate in the 6 hour race. Other top names in the world rankings who will participate include Ricardo Campello, Cedric Borde, and Kevin Pritchard.
Top windsurfers and local stalwarts Ricardi Maricel and Jean-Marc Peyronnet who was recently crowned world champion in the Grand Masters category will join other windsurfers from the island for the relay which will start at 9:30am. Teams of two will try to complete as many rounds of the figure of eight slalom course as possible in the six hours.
Organisers indicated there would be drawing to make sure the pros were not teamed with another pro to keep it a fairer playing field.
Entry fee for the 6 hour event is 5 euros. Registration should be completed by 9:00pm on January 21.
