BARBADOS-- Four teams from the Caribbean booked semi-final spots for the Caribbean T20 tournament, leaving the three visiting teams out in the cold when the penultimate preliminary match of the 10-team tournament ended in Barbados, yesterday.
Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, the Windward Islands and then Jamaica grabbed the final spots as guest teams The Netherlands, Canada and Sussex Sharks left the tournament with little satisfaction. Both Canada and the Sharks failed to win a match in their four preliminary matches. The Netherlands won one match.
Barbados was the first team to qualify even with a match in hand.
Up to press time, the Windward Islands was the only team which had won all four matches, although Barbados could be the other team to finish 4-0 when she takes on Combined Colleges and Campuses late Friday night.
Jamaica became the last team to qualify after beating the Netherlands by eight wickets, yesterday.
The Dutch men were restricted to 116 in 20 overs to which the Jamaicans overhauled with 16 balls to spare.
Marlon Samuel with a run-a-ball 30 and Shawn Findley with 23 off 17 balls combined for an unbeaten 51 partnership after Nkummer Bonner was dismissed for 35 in the 12th over with the score on 67 for two.
Earlier, left arm medium pacer Khrismar Santokie produced a devastating second spell of bowling as the last five wickets tumbled for a mere six runs. He registered superb figures of four for 13 in 3.4 overs. Nikita Miller copped three for 22 in four overs.
Eric Szwarczynski with 44 off 45 balls, Stephan Myburgh with 31 for 27 balls were the leading run scorers for the Orange Force.
The win placed Jamaica second in Group B. Barbados is the leader for that group.
The first semi-final, today brings together Darren Sammy and the Windward Islands against Jamaica from 4pm and then Barbados match skills with defending champion Trinidad and Tobago from 8pm.
The final and third-place play-off are slated for Sunday.
