COLE BAY--Thirty-nine swimmers totaled 120.25 kilometres at the Carib Swim Team's annual "Swim-a-thon" 6 hour meet at the club pool Sunday. The team organises the marathon each year to raise funds to keep their expanding team of more than 100 young swimmers running.
During the 6 hour period, swimmers stroked as far or as long as their fitness allowed. The event was open to team members and non-members.
Young team member Joris Roosens, age 10, swam an impressive 10km, 400 laps of the 25 metre pool.
The longest distance covered by a female was 10.55 km by Naomi Korstanje, age 18, with 48 year old Nicolas Sierra recording the longest swim by a male at 13km.
The youngest swimmer to participate was Miles Cheasley, age 3, who swam an admirable 150 metres, 6 laps, with a little help from his mom.
The Carib team will see action again Sunday as they host the Caribbean Gems Inter-Scholastic High School Swim Meet.
