PHILIPSBURG--The game went into double overtime before the Belvedere Bulls managed a four point victory over Cay Hill Celtics in the Cadet Division of the Soualiga Youth Basketball Association competition at L.B. Scott Sports Auditorium yesterday. Bulls won 52-48.
"It was a dandy of a game," said organiser Miguel Richardson. Bulls led 8-7 at the end of the first quarter. By the break Celtics were up 15-12. Celtics also led at the end of three 28-24.
Regulation time expired with the game knotted at 34. The first five minute overtime period ended with the scoreboard reading 42-42. Five minutes later Bulls won.
The Soualiga Youth Basketball Association competition features three divisions of play, including Minis 12 years and under, Cadets 13 to 15 years and Juniors 19 years and under.
The second game of the day also went down to the wire and was decided on free throws.
Betty's Estate Titans tipped off against Down Street Clippers in the Junior division. Clippers started the game with a 10-0 run and led 19-8 at the end of the first quarter.
Clippers led by only one point at the break. The score was 32-31 and the game was tied at 46 at the end of three.
With 14-seconds left on the clock the game was knotted at 58. After several fouls, Titans emerged victorious 62-59 after sinking their free throws.
Action continues Monday with Sucker Garden featured in all three games. In the Cadet Division at 4:30pm Junior Cats tip off against Rug Rats. At 5:30 in the Minis Mini Cats face Simple and in the late game with a scheduled 6:30pm start, Wild Cats of Sucker Garden will meet the Titans.
