COLE BAY--Learning Unlimited (LU) successfully defended its first place title in the Caribbean Gems Inter-Scholastic High School Meet at the Carib pool on Sunday. The crowd of fans and family was enthusiastic and high spirited for the 8th annual event.
Seventy swimmers 12 to 17 years from three High Schools competed in a series of strokes that went down to the last race, to determine the winner. LU took first place with 169 points. Only one point separated second and third place. Milton Peters College was second with 159, and Caribbean International Academy (CIA) was third with 158.
A first place finish resulted in the team being awarded eight points. Second was worth seven points and third six, down to a sixth place getting three points.
Each swimmer on a team was allowed to swim two events, plus one relay, with team points awarded to each team's two fastest swimmers in each event. This ensured that the better swimmers could not dominate all the events and gave maximum opportunity for the newer and less experienced swimmers to participate and earn points for their school.
Milton Peters College won the Most Spirited trophy, with its highly enthusiastic cheerleaders along with the drumming of one of their coaches. It was a close call as CIA brought its Seagull Mascot in full uniform.
The meet was run by the volunteers of the Carib Swim Team Association, along with continued support from Caribbean Gems and B and C Beverages.
