PHILIPSBURG--Patrick Griffith scored twenty-four points as he led Grand Case Scorpions to victory in the Cadet division of the Soualiga Youth Basketball Association competition at L.B. Scott Sports Auditorium on Wednesday. Scorpions defeated Dutch Quarter Rebels 55-30.
Scorpions opened a 15-4 first quarter lead. They were up 24-17 at the half and enjoyed a 19 point 38-24 lead by the end of three. Oblik Ellis was good for 10 points for the Rebels.
The Soualiga Youth Basketball Association competition features three divisions of play, including Minis 12 years and under, Cadets 13 to 15 years and Juniors 19 years and under.
In the Mini Division, which plays two 10-minute periods, Cross Over Boys bested the smaller Scorpions 14-9 after leading 9-3 at the half.
In the Junior division game, St. Martin RCM tipped-off against Middle Region Saints. RCM won 56-51 in overtime. RCM led 11-10 at the end of the first quarter.
Saints rallied. They led 24-17 at the half and 34-24 at the end of three before RCM tied the game at 40 to force extra time.
Tuesday in the Cadet Division Saints defeated Belvedere Bulls 42-38. Andrew Richardson top scored for the Saints with 10 points. Mitchell Nathaniel had 18 for the Bulls.
Action continues with three games Monday, starting at 4:30pm in the Cadet Division Simple face Celtics. In the Minis Robbie's Stars tip-off against Rug Rats and in the Junior division Rebels meet RCM.
