Scarabelli skippers team to NECOL One Design win

sailSIMPSON BAY--Andrea Scarabelli and his crew sponsored by Budget Marine/GILL won the annual NECOL One Design Regatta. Scarabelli along with team members Christopher Marshall and Derek Little bested a fleet of 12 to win the weekend sialing event.

Second place went to Paul Miller of Team Carib Data, and third was Frederic de Mesel of Team "Burning Flames" from Antigua.

This year eight members of the Norfolk Broads Yacht Club in England, traveled to St. Maarten to take part in the regatta, an international inter-club challenge rotating between eight identical Sunfast 20 keelboats. The St. Maarten Team 1 consisting of Andrea Scarabelli, Robbie Ferron and Bernard Sillem sailed away with the Challenge Trophy.

The competition was fierce from the start. In fact the first start saw the first protest of the regatta.

Sea and wind conditions were generally moderate however at least one mishap occurred. Skipper Dr. Luc Knol fell and dislocated his shoulder.
