- The 10th annual tribute to Marcus Mosiah Garvey is organized by the Freedom Fighters Foundation. This year's tribute will run as a free seminar on Tuesday, August 17, at the Philipsburg cultural centre from 7:00 to 10:00pm. The seminar themed "Back to Civilization" covers topics on wealth and health.
Freedom Fighters Foundation is well known for the organizing of the Marcus Garvey tributes, as well as Bob Marley and Black History Month events for the past 10 years, bringing positive and uplifting moments to the people. Founded in 1992, the goal of Freedom Fighters Foundation is to rebuild the island's moral foundation. This is done through annual musical, cultural and agricultural events. The foundation aims to keep the culture alive and educate the public on the consciousness of life.
The "Back to Civilization" seminar features Emilio Kamera, a financial advisor for the St. Maarten government who will speak on wealth. He will also explain the behind workings on business and the "wealth circle" on the island. Ras Bobby Olivacce will give a speech on health and give general information about improving the physical state of the body. There will be a special performance by the Shabba Jumbie drummers. The workshop also includes a presentation by Jose Lake Jr. who is very passionate about Marcus Garvey and his life work.
The general public is encouraged to come out and be part of this event. The foundation notes that "it is time to civilize ourselves once again so we can live our lives in consciousness."
The Wealth and Health workshop takes place on August 17 at the Philipsburg cultural centre at 7:00pm. Admittance is free.
