It's really hard for most of us to get all our vitamins, supplements, all the proper meals, exercise and rest, isn't it? We are all overworked and overstressed!
So instead of putting another load of stress on ourselves, we need to take small steps to ensure our bodies get what they need: water, rest, vitamins, fresh fruit & veggies and exercise! Even if that exercise is a brisk 30-minute walk or swim. Fitting the following into your busy schedule may help you attain a healthier lifestyle!
1. We boast 37 beautiful beaches, please take the time to visit them and walk up and down the beach or swim. It won't hurt and will make you feel great to take some stress from your day when you appreciate the beauty our island has to offer!
2. If your schedule allows for only a few minutes of pause during the day, spend those minutes in complete silence with your eyes closed.
3. Keep a large container of field greens in your refrigerator. Include generous amounts of these greens with every meal that you eat.
4. Whenever possible, choose mustard over mayonnaise. Even better choices than mustard are hummus and avocado slices.
5. Get into a habit of making a large pot of healthy soup over the weekend and split it up into smaller containers that can be stored in the freezer.
6. If a busy schedule isn't allowing you regular time to exercise, aim to walk part of your way to school, work or home. If you take a bus, get off one or two stops before the stop closest to your destination and walk the rest of the way.
7. If you have time to watch a little television in the evenings, stretch all of your major muscle groups while you're being entertained.
8. Start your day with a green smoothie. Green smoothies are an excellent breakfast choice for many, as they provide healthy carbohydrates, along with an abundance of vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and chlorophyll. Green smoothies are also an excellent source of fibre. When making green smoothies, it is best to use slightly more vegetables than fruits. In general, we strive to make our green smoothies 60 percent greens and 40 percent fruits. Great greens to use in green smoothies are romaine lettuce, kale, spinach, and Swiss chard. Choice fruits to use in green smoothies are bananas, pears, apples, blueberries, mangos, papayas and pineapples. If you don't have any problems digesting fruits and vegetables, you can mix and match any combination of the vegetables and fruits listed above. If you have a sensitive digestive tract, it is best to combine only one vegetable and one fruit at a time.
9. The time it takes to wash your car at the carwash, you can probably wash it yourself at home for less time and no money AND a great workout! Why not? Washing your car is a huge calorie burner and works all the muscles!
