The Adventurer Club is a special club sponsored by the worldwide Seventh-day Adventist church for children ages six to nine. With special weekly activities, parents and kids gain opportunities for learning and enjoying skills and activities involving the whole family. Several activities and field trips are planned indoor and outdoor, around the community on a regular basis.
Most recently the Adventurer Club visited The Daily Herald newspaper company and learned how the paper is a good source of media on the island, in the region and around the world. Club members enjoyed seeing the big rolls of paper and were amazed at the even bigger printing machines.
The club serves to help its members grow joyfully in wisdom, stature and in favour with God and man. It assists parents in making the development of their child richer and more meaningful and aims to strengthen parent/child relationship as well as to further the child's development in spiritual, physical, mental and social areas.
Children are divided into four classes according to their ages: Busy Bee (6), Sunbeam (7), Builder (8), Helping Hand (9). Each class has a director and volunteered counsellors and its own instructional curriculum and materials that introduce children to the Bible, basic health principles, the family and recreational activities. An Investiture service is held at the end of each year, where children receive an insignia for their completed class work.
Presently there are five clubs on the island, with a membership of 160. The clubs are located at the Seventh Day Adventist churches in Philipsburg, Belvedere, St. Peters and Cole Bay. Meetings are held on Saturday afternoons from 4:00 to 6:00pm. Registration to become a member of the Adventurer club is held in August and September.
