Nearly 10 years!

What do you do for work here?

I am a dental assistant.

What are your hobbies?

Dancing, making diaper creations and spending time with the kids.

What do you do in your free time?

When I have the time, I make Diaper Cakes; they are NOT edible creations. Made with diapers that look like cakes, they are mostly made for moms to be!

Where does your inspiration for the diaper creations come from?

Well, I was looking online for ideas for my son's third birthday party and somehow a link popped up about "Diaper Cakes." I was intrigued so I read up about it and thought it would be a GREAT idea to learn how to make them, especially because I had never heard about them being done here on St. Maarten.

What materials do you use to make your creations?

Anything related to newborns, and moms can go into them: diapers, lotions, anything related to that. It's a surprise to unwrap. It's a gift that lasts; the materials can be used well into the first few months of the newborn's life. All of the materials are presented wrapped up neatly and creatively in the form of a beautiful cake, they are actually known as "Diaper Cakes." They can be made in different sizes and made of various materials, such as organic or non-organic diapers and lotions, etc.

Where did you learn how to make these diaper creations?

Well, I did my research and learned from practicing them, looking at pictures and looking at videos online. But it's the practice that really made it for me, plus it is fun and something I love to do; I love creating something beautiful and useful! It is a lot of work that goes into them, though, especially as I have to go all over the island to find the right materials, and, the materials do cost. But I aim to create high quality gifts that everybody can afford.

Are you the only one who makes them?

I've heard that somebody else on the island makes them, but I don't know who, and have never seen their work. Most people here on the island have never heard of these diaper creations before!

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Wow! My kids will be 15 and 10! Owner of my own company, my own business.

If you could invite three famous people over for dinner, dead or alive, who would they be and why?

Michael Jackson to thank him for his great music that makes all generations dance, even my sons! Princess Diana to tell her how much she was a very good person and we miss her. And David Guetta, because he rocks!
